ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Standing over six feet tall, Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair of a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.

He has written the DEMONSOULED series of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write THE GHOSTS sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the COMPUTER BEGINNER'S GUIDE series of computer books, and numerous other works.

I really like Jonathan Moeller's stories. They are well thought out and well told for the most part. Demon Souled was arguably very well written and proofread. The story was in depth and without a doubt very well thought out. I have read the entire series before posting a review so I could review the entire series instead of just one book. I will copy and paste to the other versions as well. As stated Demon Souled was well written and proofread. HOWEVER, this is the only one I can say that about. Overall I read it all and was able to delve into the story, however the poor proofreading and grammar in some situations caused an interruption in the story. As I was reading I would stop confused and then realize he mistyped something or used the wrong word as a typo. Something proofreading his work would have corrected. His repetition often caused me to skip chapters at a time for details I got tired of reading again and again, just to get back to the story. It felt like filler material. I still give him four stars simply because if you get around those negative aspects of the books. The story is unique and compelling. Jonathan himself seems to be a great individual as he answered questions from me as I was reading the books. I pride myself on honesty and it actually hurts me to write anything negative about his stories as I do enjoy them.

Soul of Swords Demonsouled Book 7 eBook Jonathan Moeller Reviews

The storyline was very captivating, as was the development of characters, however the editing is atrocious. The over usage of many phrases began to get irritating. Ex killed them utterly... And references to pear shaped bodies. Many misspelled words and unintelligible sentences such as ... Hugh laughed. “Amiss? Save for the war, would could possibly amiss?
I would have given it a 5 star rating if not for the many, many editing errors.
This book went out with a bang. I have really enjoyed this series, but this book blew me away. So many different plots are revealed to the reader, but the author has him or her biting their fingernails in agony with that knowledge. You know it, and you can sense that everything spiralling downhill to utter destruction. Your favorite characters do not know what the others are plotting, and are doomed to fail. It is torture. Very well done, Jonathan Moeller. Very well done. (I grew to love Morebeth by the end. At first I hated her. To those who have read these books, I think you will agree. To those who are currently reading and haven't made it to this book, you will find out what I mean. And to those who have not read it, READ IT!!!)
The story told in the seven books of this series is an engaging one. To get to it,one has to forgive a multitude of flaws. I have commented before about the failure to proof read. A few examples the word when one puts something at an angle is "tilted", not "titled". In several places the negative was missing which needless to say, made for some very strange statements in the context of the story. Another flaw, and one that drove me crazy, was the repetition of descriptions. It got to the point that I dreaded a change of scene.
In all, there is little wrong with the books that an editor and a good proofreader couldn't fix.
A crashing battle. Can love really conquer all or will the old demon get his way and rule the world with terror forevermore? Mazeal will be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice - will he shred the remaining evil or will it win and leave the souls of the world in torment for eternity? A grand finale.
A 3 star rating because the author refuses to either proofread his own work or have others do so and it becomes very distracting and detracts from the enjoyment of the books. In fairness, this series was written in it's entirety before 2014 so maybe this is less of an issue now but since he self publishes he could correct these issues and repost updated ebooks now.
This was a great end to the series. I gave this five stars because for an independant author, this series really delivered. It is rough, of course, and in need of an editor, but I would much rather send my money directly to the auther and ignore typos than spend an extra few bucks to remove the typos and the author ends up with much less for his efforts and creativity. My feelings on this were confirmed by the note by the author at the end. It is a great story to read about his attempts at traditional publishing, then his discovery of self-publishing through and his success with it. Well deserved congratulations on that, Jonathan Moeller.

As to the book itself, it fit right in with the rest of the series and was a solid ending. The ending was predictable, but comfortingly so. A twist ending would have left a sour taste in my mouth, I believe. This held true to the Sword and Sorcery genre where the good guy always wins over staggering odds, and comes out stronger than before. This book, and this series, is a great escape into excitement and wonder. The characters are all great; I found myself even cheering on Lucan, Skalaton, and even the Old Demon himself.
There were times when I didn't think I would make it through the entire series, though after investing time in several complete books, it's tough to make that decision. Overall I loved the series. After about the third or fourth book I had to take a break for a while, but later started back and the series kept me to the end. The author's love of fantasy RPGs is quite evident in the books. Often it felt more as though I was playing an RPG rather than reading a book. Gives you a bit more "ownership" in the story, I suppose.

For readers who are put off by editing errors, this may be a tough read. Surely the books could have been better edited, in fact they often appeared to have been rushed through with a word processor doing a great spell-check, but forgetting the grammar check. Words were omitted from sentences... "there, they're, their" types of errors were scattered throughout. But if you can get beyond that, the series was a great read. The battle scenes (and there was at least one "epic" battle in each book) were quite well done without being morbid. The characters were well developed and easy to keep track of even after taking some time off in the middle of reading the series.
