The immortal tale of a boy and his slog.

HEART of BRASS Tiger Moody Books

This was a refreshing read, I couldn't put in down. I was so glad when my copy turned up in the mail as I've been scouring the internet and short-lived social media pages belong to Tiger Moody for years in attempts to read as much of his work as possible. Raw, emotional and real, I cannot recommend enough!

HEART of BRASS Tiger Moody Books Reviews

This book was terribly morose and depressing.
This book is fantastic! Got a copy from a friend and read it in two sittings. Well-written, real, and very funny but at times raw and very moving, it tells the story of a suburban kid who escapes his abusive family and school life by making pilgrimages to the East Village of the 1980s to hang with his friends at CBGB’s, indie record stores, and the streets of NYC. Never forced or fake, it's like “The Catcher in the Rye” if Holden Caulfield was into hardcore. I definitely recommend this book!
As one enters middle age they have finally lived long enough to walk/crawl the razors edge of nostalgia and melancholy. In moments of self pity I feel that those of us born in the early to mid 70's were born obsolete, the last generation to reach adulthood before the internet and cell phones hade taken over. In many ways having more in common with our parents childhood than those of people a mere five or ten years younger. Perhaps I had buried so many of those childhood/adolescent feelings and experiences as a form of self preservation but that all came back in the most powerful way while reading Moody's Heart of Brass. I haven't had a visceral experience tied to my youth this strong since Bill Haverchuck ate alone laughing hysterically to Gary Shandling on the Dinah Shore Show with The Who blasting on Freaks and Geeks. The intimate, painful, brilliant recollections of youth set suburban Jersey and the New York Hard Core scene our endlessly entertaining. Living in an era with no signifacant counterculture this books sheds light on one of the last youth movements that took place in the physical world, not behind isolated screens. Although the rush of memories and feelings at times were overwhelming in the end this writing was cathartic, I wasn't alone.
This book was phenominal. I live in New York right now, and many of the settings I am familiar with, creating a closer bond between the main character and myself.
I read this book very quickly, as I couldn't seem to put it down. I even missed my subway stop, more than once. I can't wait to read it again and again. The tempo is wonderful and works very well with the story.
Near the last chapters I couldn't help but smile as the pieces came together. The main character made me smile. I know this character. I know this kid.
Tiger Moody is the Jack Black of our generation. Riding the rails of a brutal home life, puberty, drugs and skinhead life. He can't seem to catch a break and yet seems to be the only winner in this convergence of two timelines. One of the most riveting reads in an era of short attention spans....as I, once started, could not put it down.
Good book, mad crucial. Delinquency at it lowest. Definitely shelf worthy.
All Skrewed Up!
